Can a swift turn of the head give me the perfect eyeliner flick?

Illustration of eyeliner wing

The hack
Can a bizarre “head turn” help you achieve that perfect eyeliner wing?

The test
I’m pretty good at makeup, but a perfect eyeliner wing is the one thing that seems to evade me. So I’m curious to see if this will take the painstaking application out of my hands entirely.

The method is unbelievably simple: just put the applicator tip – I’m using an eyeliner pen – on the outer corner of the eye where you’d usually go to create the upward flick. Then with the pen lightly touching your skin, you move your head quickly away from the eyeliner. It takes a bit of courage, so to will myself to do it as fast as those on TikTok, I pretend I’ve just seen Jason Momoa out of the corner of my eye.

You’ve never seen somebody’s head move so fast; we’re talking Exorcist fast. I’m left with a slightly crazed line that leaves the outer corner of my eye and meets my hairline – not ideal. I try again with a slightly lighter touch, and this time I erase Momoa from my mind and make my head turn less pronounced. I do have a little more luck, but it is still worse than my former endeavours – and it hasn’t saved me any time.

The verdict
Not even a giant Hawaiian man can save this hack. Getting an easy-to-use liquid liner is the first step to creating a flick, and I’ve found Make Up by Mario’s the simplest to wield. The rest, sadly, is practice and a little luck.
