Cameroon Football Federation Expresses Concern Over Coaching Appointment

Cameroon's football federation has expressed its great astonishment following the recent appointment of Marc Brys as the new coach of the country's national team. Brys, a Belgian, takes over from Rigobert Song, whose contract expired after the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and was not renewed.

The federation released a statement indicating that they were not informed in advance about the decision to appoint Brys, describing the move as unilateral. The federation highlighted that this action goes against the terms outlined in Decree No. 2014/384 of September 26, 2014, which governs the organization and functioning of national football teams in Cameroon.

FIFA regulations strictly prohibit government interference in national football matters. The federation has initiated efforts to investigate and clarify the circumstances surrounding Brys' appointment, seeking to address what they consider a regrettable situation.

Rigobert Song, the outgoing coach, guided the Indomitable Lions to the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing his leadership and coaching abilities during his tenure.

The Cameroonian Football Federation's response underscores the importance of transparency and adherence to established protocols in the management of national football teams. The federation's commitment to upholding governance standards and ensuring fair and equitable processes in coaching appointments is evident in their reaction to the recent developments.

As the situation unfolds, FIFA may provide further guidance or directives regarding the governance of football activities in Cameroon. The federation's efforts to address the issue promptly demonstrate their dedication to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of football administration in the country.
