A 72-year-old tourist has died while bushwalking with a group of people in remote southwest Tasmania.

Emergency services were called about 7.30pm on Tuesday after the trio became separated on a day hike at Mount Anne.

The man, who was from Canberra, was unable to be located.

His body was later spotted by rescue helicopter and was expected to be retrieved on Wednesday.

"Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this difficult time," Tasmania Police said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
