Boomers star returns in NBL boost for Melbourne

NBA champion Jack White has agreed to return to Melbourne United next season as the NBL runners-up strengthen their roster for another title shot.

He has signed a two-year deal, which features a player option on the second year and an NBA out-clause, allowing the 26-year-old to take up an opportunity overseas if it arises.

White previously spent two seasons with Melbourne from 2020-22 and played a key role as Dean Vickerman's team won the title in 2021.

The Australian Boomers forward then headed to the US and made 17 appearances for the Denver Nuggets during their 2022-23 NBA championship season.

He spent time with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, but mostly featured in the NBA G League over the past two years.

Vickerman said Victorian product White would be a "magnificent asset" for United on his return home.

"We're incredibly proud of Jack and the journey he has taken across his career so far," Vickerman said.

"The greatest improvement we've seen is in his shot and the confidence in the way he can get it off from deep.

"He's going to be an easy addition to our group because of his versatility.

"In his time away he's had to adjust quickly to changing line-ups, so he's developed a really great ability to effectively play a role no matter what the scenario is."

White joins a star-studded Melbourne roster, with the bulk of last season's squad returning after a Championship Series defeat to the Tasmania JackJumpers in March.

Chris Goulding, Matthew Dellavedova, Shea Ili, Luke Travers, Kyle Bowen, Flynn Cameron, Tanner Krebs, Rob Loe and Tom Koppens are all contracted for the upcoming campaign.
