Benedict Cumberbatch takes a swipe at Will Smith in hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch

While hosting Saturday Night Live for the second time, Benedict Cumberbatch proved he can make just about anything sexy.

In a hilarious Kohler toilet spoof, the Sherlock star shook things up as he appeared before a classroom full of students being forced to repeat the mantra "there's only one acceptable way" to use a toilet.

Unlike their teacher (Mikey Day), who says they must sit upright and never slouch, the Oscar nominee arrived to preach that "the next big thing" is about to hit every restroom.

What happened next caused all those in attendance to gasp.

Benedict proceeded to unbuckle his belt and drops his drawers, before leaning back and enjoying a cocktail while on the loo.

Once he utilised some pages from a novel to wipe himself, Benedict dismissed the class to the applause of the high schoolers in attendance.

Appearing to promote his latest film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the 45-year-old actor took the opportunity to show off his pipes

Performing at Chuck E. Cheese, Benedict gave an unexpected performance at the children's pizza place dressed as a dog with floopy ears.

He went on to soulfully sing about pizza, before the lyrics took a different turn leaving parents wondering how appropriate this is for their children.

Benedict also received an unexpected visit from Elizabeth Olsen during the show, who stars alongside the British actor in the second Doctor Strange movie.

Elizabeth made an appearance to interrupt Chloe Fineman who was channelling her best Scarlet Witch impression.

Before all the sketches, Benedict started off the show, which he was hosting for the first time since 2016, with his monologue which included a swipe at Will Smith.

The actor didn't hold back as he joked about the King Richard star, 52, violently striking comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony in March.

The topic came up after he said the writers of SNL failed to pitch any ideas relating to his role in the critically acclaimed western, The Power of the Dog.

He said: "Come on, man, I was nominated for an Oscar for that. I mean, I didn't win. I was beat by Will Smith. No, not physically. Not physically."

The Emmy Award winner was hosting SNL ahead of Mother's Day.

He took the opportunity to pay tribute to his mother thanking her for 'always' being there for him, and coming up with solutions for his insecurities as a kid.

He said: "When I lost my front teeth I was worried about being teased, you said it's okay. Just try to smile without opening your mouth.

He added that "great advice" may explain "to this day and in every red carpet photograph" why he smiles like that.
