Authorities Searching For Boater Who Fatally Struck 15-Year-Old In Florida

Authorities are currently on the lookout for a boater who tragically struck a 15-year-old girl in the Florida Keys over the weekend. The incident occurred while Ella Riley Adler was water skiing off Key Biscayne near Nixon Beach at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. She was struck by a center console boat with a light blue hull that fled the scene, as reported by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Ella was wearing a life vest and ski boards on her feet at the time of the collision. First responders noted a significant amount of blood in the water following the incident. The young girl was celebrating a friend's birthday on a family boat when the tragic accident took place.

FWC officers are actively seeking the boat's captain, who was traveling westbound from Nixon Beach. The boat in question is described as having multiple white outboard motors and possibly blue or dark blue bottom paint, according to FWC.

Authorities have announced a total reward of up to $20,000 for any information regarding the vessel and the individual responsible for the crash, with $5,000 being offered by Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers. Witnesses are urged to come forward to assist the FWC in their investigation.

Ella Riley Adler, a student at Ransom Everglades School and a member of its dance team, was a talented young individual. She had a passion for dance and had performed in numerous shows with the Miami City Ballet at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Described as someone who lit up a room with her presence, Ella was deeply cherished by her family and friends.

Her family highlighted her pride in her Jewish heritage, noting her connection to Holocaust survivors and her strong commitment to faith and tikkun olam. Tributes from Ella's friends poured in, expressing their deep sorrow and recounting the impact she had on their lives.

In a statement, Ransom Everglades School remembered Ella as a remarkable dancer and a beloved friend to many. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levina Cava offered her condolences to the Adler family and emphasized the importance of boat safety to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
