Austria Euro 2024 squad: Ralf Rangnick's provisional team ahead of the tournament

The Austria Euro 2024 squad has been provisionally announced, with manager Ralf Rangnick having to withdraw three more players ahead of the UEFA deadline on June 7.

Crucially, though, David Alaba has failed to make the Austria Euro 2024 squad, having not recovered from a cruciate ligament tear in time. That'll dampen the spirits in the team, though that doesn't diminsh the quality of their talent-packed squad. With Marcel Sabitzer, Marko Arnautovic and Konrad Laimer, Austria could be one to keep an eye on Euro 2024

There's plenty of ability, plenty of experience, and there's a manager in Ralf Rangnick who might have had a torrid time at Manchester United, but is clearly faring a lot better preparing the Austria Euro 2024 squad.

Qualifying proved successful for Austria, too, reaching Euro 2024 with six wins, one draw and one loss in a group containing Belgium, though that's not to say they won't face tougher tests in Germany.

There, they're in arguably one of the toughest Euro 2024 groups, where they have to face the Netherlands, France and Poland. Progression to the knockout stages could prove difficult, but the Euro 2024 fixtures could go their way, too - there's always a dark horse to emerge, and why can't it be Austria.

As ever, FourFourTwo will cover every Euro 2024 squad, details on how to watch every game, and provide the latest coverage as we report live from the European Championship.

After failing to fix Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick entered international management for the first time in the summer 2022, succeeding fellow German Franco Foda as Austria boss. He faced plenty of ridicule in England, but he's faring brilliantly in charge of the Austria national team.

Qualification went swimmingly for the German boss, which included impressive victories home and away against Sweden, while the Austria Euro 2024 squad looks adept under his command.

Austria's star player

Marcel Sabitzer

With David Alaba missing the tournament through injury, Marcel Sabitzer will have to step up and become the prominent figure in Austria's team. The midfielder has had a strong season at Borussia Dortmund this season, with a Champions League final appearance also approaching for Sabitzer, too.

FAQs

How many players are Austria allowed to take to Euro 2024?

The Austria Euro 2024 squad will feature 26 players. UEFA initially wanted teams to be reduced to 23 for the tournament, but teams fought against that idea, arguing the increased schedules of players has increased their injury risk.
