Anupamaa actor Rupali Ganguly joins BJP, says impressed by PM Modi’s work

TV actor Rupali Ganguly, famous for her roles in serials like Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai and Anupamaa, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on May 1. Her entry in the party ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha election is being seen as part of the BJP’s outreach to women.

Along with Ms. Ganguly, Ameya Joshi, a social worker and astrologer from Maharashtra, also joined the BJP.

The two were welcomed by BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde and national media department in-charge Anil Baluni.

Speaking about the reason for joining the party, Ms. Ganguly said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his work had attracted her towards BJP.

“Seeing the ‘Mahayagya’ of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I felt that I should also be a part of it. I wish to follow in the footsteps of the PM and serve fellow citizens in whichever role I am entrusted with,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tawde launched a scathing attack against the Opposition parties over Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Maria Alam’s appeal for “vote jihad”.

“Congress is giving OBC reservation to Muslims and now asking Muslims to participate in ‘vote jihad’ campaign. This shows that the Opposition is rattled,” he said

During canvassing for the Opposition’s candidate from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha seat earlier this week, Ms. Alam, called for a “vote jihad,” saying it was necessary in the current situation for the minority community to dislodge the BJP from power.
