Angels Pitcher Leaves Game After Getting Drilled in Head by Throw From His Own Teammate

Angels pitcher Chase Silseth was struck in the head by a thrown ball during Los Angeles’s game against the Mets Saturday evening, forcing the 23-year-old right-hander from the contest.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Angels up 5–0, Silseth threw a pitch to catcher Logan O’Hoppe with two runners on base. O’Hoppe mistakenly threw the ball to first baseman Trey Cabbage as New York shortstop Francisco Lindor and second baseman Jeff McNeil appeared to attempt a double steal, and Cabbage then tried to throw the ball to third baseman Mike Moustakas.

Cabbage, however, accidentally hit Silseth in the head. He immediately crumpled to the grass and was removed from the game.

The Mets are on the board.

The Mets scored their first run of the game on the play and went on to trim the lead to 5-2, although the mood was muted by Silseth’s injury.

Silseth is 4–1 this season with a 4.00 ERA in 45 innings pitched.
