Amazon is publishing the new Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics

The new Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics is still in the works, and Amazon announced it will publish the action game on multiple platforms – whenever it releases. Amazon made the announcement in a press release, which Game Informer obtained, and said the new Tomb Raider pushes Lara Croft’s saga forward in exciting new ways and called it the most expansive Tomb Raider yet.

“It includes all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming, giving players control of the confident and multidimensional hero Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding, with mind-bending puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and overcome,” Amazon said in the press release.

Crystal Dynamics is building the new Tomb Raider using Unreal Engine 5, and Amazon Games will publish the game globally whenever it launches.

Scott Amos, head of Crystal Dynamics, said he believes Amazon is an ideal publishing partner.

“Transformative is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games, we found a team that shares our creative vision, and values for a Lara Croft universe across the spectrum of possibilities,” Amos said in the release. “They’re uniquely positioned to rewrite what publishing and development collaborations are, and we’re eager to forge this new path together, starting with building the biggest and best Tomb Raider game yet.”

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the series’ most recent entry, released in 2019 to mostly positive reviews, with critics praising its interesting world, while pointing out the need for an equally-interesting story.

The new Tomb Raider is a bit of a departure for Amazon Games, which has, up until now, focused primarily on online games, such as New World, Lost Ark, and the upcoming Blue Protocol MMO from Bandai.
