Alex Garland's 'Civil War' To Premiere At SXSW Festival

A24's 'Civil War' depicts a near-future U.S. with secession and political turmoil.

Alex Garland's latest film, 'Civil War,' is set to make its debut at the upcoming SXSW festival. The movie, produced by A24, presents a near-future scenario in the United States where 19 states have seceded from the Union. The storyline revolves around a tyrannical three-term president, portrayed by Nick Offerman, who orders air strikes against the rebellious factions.

The star-studded cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Sonoya Mizuno. 'Civil War' joins the lineup of other highly anticipated films at SXSW, such as Dev Patel's action thriller 'Monkey Man,' Sydney Sweeney's horror film 'Immaculate,' and the comedy 'Y2K' featuring Rachel Zegler.

Additionally, festival attendees can look forward to screenings of Ryan Gosling's 'The Fall Guy,' Anne Hathaway's romance 'The Idea of You,' and a remake of 'Road House' led by Jake Gyllenhaal, which will kick off the event. Claudette Godfrey, VP of film & TV at SXSW, praised 'Civil War' as a visually stunning and emotionally impactful cinematic masterpiece that offers a unique blend of grand spectacle and intimate character exploration.

Alex Garland, known for his work on 'Ex Machina' and 'Men,' has a history of success at SXSW, with his films receiving critical acclaim. A24, the production company behind 'Civil War,' previously premiered the best picture winner 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' at the festival. The anticipation is high for Garland's latest creation, with early reviews suggesting that 'Civil War' is set to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling and exceptional ensemble performances.
