A Columnist’s Attack on a WFAN Show Is the Epitome of Hypocrisy

1. I love the smell of hypocrisy first thing in the morning.

New York Post columnist Phil Mushnick ripped WFAN's morning show, Boomer and Gio, over the weekend, but there was one teeny, tiny problem.

It seems Mushnick was upset that Gregg Giannotti and Jerry Recco, filling in for Boomer Esiason that day, picked up on it and had some laughs about a ridiculous story regarding men in the Hamptons getting penis injections so they’d look better in shorts and bathing suits.

From Mushnick’s column:

WFAN remains stuck on the belief that its viewers aren’t bright enough to distinguish crude from clever. Or sports from the sounds of gastric flatulence.

Its “Boomer & Gio” weekday morning drive show still targets not just young adult males, but disaffected slobs.

Last week, Gregg Giannotti and Jerry Recco — the latter subbing for “Weekday” Boomer Esiason (the profane phony who plays a gentleman on CBS’s NFL weekend studio show), held a “hilarious” conversation on penis enlargement, likely trying to exploit an audience that included desensitized junior high students prior to attending mandated summer school.

So, where did Giannotti and Recco get this hard-hitting story? From Mushnick's own company, the New York Post!!!

Not only that, the Post made sure to put “exclusive” all over the investigative piece.

Not only that, the Post story included a video that featured a guy holding a cucumber over his crotch.

Not only that, the day the Post broke the story, they had a GIF on their homepage of a guy lying on the beach with a needle injecting an eggplant emoji.

In fact, I’m so immature, I posted a video of this absurd nonsense!

But according to Mushnick, WFAN is the problem, not the New York Post.

Oh, those glass houses ...

2. Rafael Devers was mic’d up for Sunday Night Baseball and caught a pop-up while he was discussing his favorite ice cream flavors.

3. You knew TMZ would get Tom Brady sooner or later, and today it did.

4. On Monday’s Good Morning Football, Kyle Brandt talked about what he’s been up to this summer, which included a trip to Disney World. Why am I telling you this? Because Brandt ran into Aaron Donald at Disney and revealed that Donald was walking around wearing a Rams hat.

5. Today is the 40th anniversary of one of those classic “Imagine if Twitter was around for this” moments: The George Brett pine tar incident.

6. The latest episode of SI Media With Jimmy Traina features an interview with the man behind ProFootballTalk, Mike Florio.

Topics covered include the Jets’ over-the-top reluctance to appear on HBO’s Hard Knocks this season, whether Bill Belichick is actually on the hot seat in New England this season, whether the NFL will ever allow fans to purchase games for just a single team, the latest controversy with running backs being devalued and not getting megacontracts and much more.

Following Florio, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York joins me for our weekly “Traina Thoughts” segment. This week we discuss our night out at a steakhouse, the Miranda Lambert/selfie scandal, whether we should keep reading Apple reviews on the podcast, my bad back, Sal’s reluctance to get a colonoscopy and more.

You can listen to the podcast below or download it on Apple, Spotify and Google.
