Brisk acceleration is one of the signature features of electric cars. They are not only very quick, but the acceleration itself is smooth and quiet.
In today's post, we'll take a look at a list of 0 to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) acceleration times, official or estimated by the manufacturers, for U.S.-market battery-electric vehicles. There are more than 300 individual configurations on sale, including different battery sizes, ranges, powertrain setups, and wheels, out of which we collected 0-60 mph numbers for about 250 configurations. Not all manufacturers list acceleration times for all their models or versions, but the chart is as comprehensive as we could make it.
We've included models that are currently available for order or reservation, upcoming models, and a few that have been discontinued but may still be found on dealer lots as reference points.
Please take into account that some values have a 1 ft rollout subtracted (especially the performance models, like the Lucid Air or Tesla Model S Plaid). Unfortunately, there is no consistent dataset, which means we must include some uncertainty of 0.1-0.2 seconds.
The quickest all-electric model on the list is the 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire, which does 0-60 mph in 1.89 seconds. This tri-motor beast was able to achieve a slightly better result than the flagship Tesla Model S Plaid at 1.99 seconds (also a tri-motor EV.) Due to the rollout, in the real-world tests, users should get something around 2.0+ seconds.
There are several models that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds, including the Tesla Model X Plaid, top-of-the-line Porsche Taycan (Turbo S and Turbo S Cross Turismo), as well as the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast—the quickest electric pickup.
Note that this chart currently references the current 2023 Porsche Taycan. The EV gets significant upgrades for the 2025 model year, but full acceleration data is not available for all models yet. We will update this information as we get it.
Interestingly, roughly a fifth of all configurations can achieve 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds or less.
About half of all listed EVs can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. The vast majority, over 80%, can do it in under 6.0 seconds. And only a relatively small number of configurations—less than 40 out of about 250—need between 6.0 and 9.0 seconds.
Just like a few years ago, the Rivian R1T pickup with the quad-motor powertrain was the least expensive model that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.0 seconds. Its price including destination charge was $88,000. In 2021, this version was available for about $60,000 with $7,500 federal tax credit deducted. The Tesla Model S Plaid at $91,630 is even more interesting because it costs only slightly more and is a second quicker.
The Lucid Air, on the other hand, not only offers spectacular acceleration but also combines it with the highest range values. When driven normally, those cars manage over 400 miles or even over 500 miles.
One of the biggest surprises on the list is that there is a model with 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a price tag of $46,195 (including destination fees). This model is the 2025 Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Plus AWD. We are not entirely sure, but it seems that there was never an EV with such acceleration available for under $50,000 without incentives.
The Tesla Model Y Performance remains pretty strong too. Its acceleration is estimated at 3.5 seconds (rollout subtracted), and it has an effective cost of $46,630 thanks to the $7,500 federal tax credit.
We guess that the Tesla Model 3 Performance would offer a similar acceleration at an even lower price, but it's not available right now.
Overall, there are almost no slow electric cars on the market, and most of them feel way quicker than average new gas-powered cars.
This chart was last updated Feb. 19, 2024. It will be updated as the year goes on.

Info and exceptions:
- EV model is usually described as model year, brand, model name, version (battery or drive type) and wheel size in inches.
- Some numbers listed here are estimated or unofficial. Please check the manufacturer's website for confirmation.
- The list includes all EVs available on the U.S. market (for which data were announced), as well as a few discontinued and some upcoming models for reference.
- Some destination charges also include additional fees, as in the case of Tesla or Lucid.
- The $7,500 federal tax credit rules have changed as of January 2024. We assume $3,750 value for all Rivian EVs under the $80,000 price cap.
- Battery capacity is usually the total amount, although some manufacturers report the usable value or do not state that value.
- 0-60 mph acceleration, especially for performance models, often with 1 ft rollout subtracted. The exact value might be different depending on the version and options.
- 0-100 km/h (62 mph) times are usually up to around 0.2 seconds higher than 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h).
